Philippians emphasises the anointing of Jesus with the oil of gladness so that joy may be poured out on the church. In chapter one the first section (v1-11) is on prayer and growing in Christ, and then (v12-30) is about Paul's imprisonment and the progress of the gospel. Roger looks briefly at chapter two (v1-11), which continues the theme of unity, but the focus changes from the church to Christ, who is described in a beautiful hymn. (95min)
