Having led Israel from Moses into the inheritance, chapter 23 is Joshua's farewell speech to the elders of Israel. It is paralleled by Paul's farewell speech to the leaders of Ephesus (Acts 20), and we see that to fully enter into our inheritance and defeat the enemy we must be commended to the Lord and commended to his good words - we must not lose our 'first love'.
